Regrets and Trust

It's been a long time coming, but I've decided to test out what creativeness I have left in me to start a blog on my walk with God. I've never been a dynamic writer; I tend to get right to the point, that must be the engineering side of me, but I feel like I need to express my faith story.

This morning's sermon was about John 10, which is Jesus telling a story about sheep. He calls himself the doorway to the sheep's pen. This is an interesting parallel. We are the sheep, and without Christ as our doorway, we are stuck in the pen. This brought up my first blog topic, regret.

We all have regrets, it's a fact of life. After much thought, I realized what regret really is. God opened the door to a life changing opportunity, and we decided to stay in the comfort of the known. Why do we do this? In my case, it's always been a trust issue. I decided to not trust God's calling for me, and stayed where I felt "safe".

God wants us to experience life, and sometimes that means we need to be woken up from our stagnancy. So here I stand, a child of God, realizing once again that God's plan for me is not always the same as my own. But the funny part is, I've grown closer to God through that understanding. This is what scares a lot of Christians I think, that we will sometime have to stand in front of our Savior and be open and honest about everything.

I praise my Lord God for knowing what's best for me, and giving me yet another opportunity to come back into His' presence. Do I have regrets? Of course I do, it's part of being human to make our own decisions, and sometimes it seems easier to go our own way than to follow God's, but we need to trust that He will watch over us and never give us more than we can handle.

I pray for everyone who reads this and has regrets to go before God and ask Him to open another door. We need a leader to pull us through the trials of life, so why not take the risk and open the door so we aren't caught someday with nowhere to go?

[Jesus said] I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. John 10:9-10
